By now, you probably know about the work at home revolution. Since 2009, the number of people who work from home has risen by 159%. Over the past decade or so, there’s been a collection of technologies (think mobile and bandwidth) and events (think COVID) that are pushing more people to the ranks of remote workers.
And 45% of full-time employees working partly or fully remotely in September of 2021. After a global pandemic, companies are finally awake to the fact that many of us don’t need to be onsite all the time – which is good for them and us. And you may want to join in the work at home revolution.
So in this video, I want to outline 7 of the awesome benefits of working remotely. The last one (which is also the number #1 reason people work from home), may be unexpected.
I’m Brandon and I have worked at home for over a decade part-time and full-time. I have lived these benefits for years and I want help you imagine just how some of these can change your life.
Friends, we live in an interesting time. There are challenges in our 21st century Western society, no question. But there are also opportunities available that our great grandparents could have never imagined on the scale that is happening right now. And one of those opportunities is the ability to be location independent in your work. Let’s dig into those benefits.
1. Fewer distractions
- 75% of people work remotely because there are fewer distractions (FlexJobs)
- Quiet environment
2. More Productive
- 77% of remote workers say they’re more productive when they’re working from home (CoSo Cloud)
- Easier to drill into a project and less opportunity for a co-worker to ask, “do you have a minute.”
3. Avoid commuting
- Lessening stress
- Environmentally friendly
4. Location Freedom
- Work from your house
- Work from a coffee shop
- Work from a beach
- Work from ski chalet
5. Improved Health
- Environment is more manageable
- Nobody is asking you to head to an unhealthy burger joint
- Avoid flu season in close office quarters
6. Higher Income and Lower Expenses
- Money earned: The average annual income of remote workers is $4,000 higher than that of other workers (FlexJobs)
- Money saved: Remote workers save around $7,000 per year in transportation, food, and childcare (TECLA)
- Less gas
- Less eating out
- Fewer clothes bought
7. Work-Life Balance
Better work-life balance is the main reason people chose to work remotely (Owl Labs).
- Less time spent commuting – more time spent with family.
- Less time getting distracted – more time spent doing projects that ignite your purpose.
- Bottom line, you can achieve a better work and life balance.
“So I saw that there is nothing better than that a man should rejoice in his work, for that is his lot. Who can bring him to see what will be after him?” (Ecclesiastes 3:22 – ESV)
According to Solomon, a great benefit in life is enjoyment in work. You may like your job, but some of the accouterments of working outside the home leave much to be desired. And you know remote work would help you “rejoice” in your work. So give it a try.
