New YouTube Project: Total Calling

After months of planning and years of experience in personal growth, I’m starting a new project: Total Calling. The aim of Total Calling is to explore personal development from a biblical perspective so you can become the person God wants you to be. The primary channel for this project is YouTube, however we also plan to publish on select social media channels including on this website.

Backstory for Total Calling

My name is Brandon Clay. This is my real name – the one my parents gave me.

In the mid 2000s about 15 years ago, I made a dramatic career switch in my life that worked out. I went from a series of drudgery jobs to a career matched to my skills with financial rewards that followed. At that time, I began consuming many personal development books and content to help on my career switch and they did. However, as a Christian there were some things I saw that didn’t always align with my values. I also graduated from seminary some years back, so I know something about the Bible.

Because I saw the benefits of the personal growth industry in my own life but was concerned about staying faithful as a Christian, I started Total Calling. I wanted to examine personal development from a biblical perspective. The goal was to see how the principles in traditional personal development, understood through the lens of the Bible, can help with your work, your life, and the purpose God gave to you.

What We Believe at Total Calling

There are some things we believe at Total Calling that are supported by biblical texts.

  • We believe you can find work that is interesting, rewarding, and enjoyable (Ecclesiastes 2:24).
  • We believe financial rewards in work are available that exceed your family’s needs (Ephesians 4:28).
  • We believe there are benefits to those who learn personal development concepts which are often rooted in biblical principles (Isaiah 54:2-3).
  • We believe you can become a well-grounded person that addresses all 8 major areas of life: physical, career, financial, marriage and integrity, children and mentees, social, trials, and spiritual (Philippians 1:6).
  • We believe good habits help propel you to success in all these areas (Proverbs 22:6).
  • We believe our lives should be aimed toward temporal, generational, and eternal rewards (Proverbs 13:22; 22:4; 2 Timothy 4:8).
  • We believe our lives should be tethered to the Bible, the Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16).
  • We aim to live lives pleasing to God (Romans 12:2).
